DIY natural Tie Dye

If you haven’t noticed the latest trend since social distancing started.. then you must not be staying inside! Anywho it is a thing, the tie dye sweat is taking over! AND since I’m trying really hard to save as much as possible during this time I wanted to try to tie the my own sweats! I have listed out all of the steps below:

Tie garment how you prefer – I suggest looking on YouTube for techniques! That’s what I did 🙂

Then use rubber bands and/or clothes pins to create your pattern.

Boil a large pot of water and add garment for 3 to 4 minutes (this is called scouring) & add a little salt. After it boils for a few minutes turn heat off

Pour 1 cup of turmeric and a squeeze of lemon to deepen the color (or don’t! Totally up to you)

Let this soak overnight! Be patient. I know it’s hard!

After 24 hours rinse in the sink on cold until residue is gone, and hang to dry. If you’re not a fan of the smell you can wash it later with mild soap just be careful not to wash with other things because it probably will bleed.

*Keep in mind this works best with cotton, hemp, and, silk (natural fabric) *

PS: you can use other things such as onion peels for pink or red cabbage for purple!

You can then save the dye for later in a ball jar and throw things like scrunchies, underwear, or anything else you can think of for a new look!

Let me know if you give it a try! Would love to see how it turns out!
